Memorable TV Adverts

Postby philipdalton on November 24th, 2012, 10:50 pm

There's never yet been a thread on TV adverts on this website, so I've decided to start one before anyone else gets the chance. Are there are particular ads on the TV you think are pretty well-made right now, or some you think are just completely stupid?
Are there are ads in particular you can still recall from years ago, or even from your childhood?
Here's the place to discuss them with others.

One ad I can remember is baby Darth Vader. I think it was for a car but I have no idea what country I saw it in. Nothing to do with Tom but I just remember it was cute.

I thought I heard Tom's voice on an advert for Philishave on YouTube. Does anyone know how many ads he has appeared in or done the voiceovers for?

The whole point is that the ads don't need to be any good but with Tom in it it always seems to work. I remember watching an old Cellnet commercial on youtube and there really isn't that much to it but with Tom's voice it's hilarious.

It would be nice to compile a list of the ads he's done.

I don't live where ads with Tom Baker voice-overs are played. But there is currently an unforgettable ad on TV on this side of the pond involving an actor.

It's the Chanel ad with Brad Pitt just standing there talking. It's painful to watch and to listen to. I think Chanel have ditched it, though, in favour of a modified version where Brad Pitt is still making the same speech, but it's a voice-over. The very end of the ad still shows Brad standing there saying the final line, but at least the ad is a bit (no, a lot!) more palatable than it was in its original version.

Being as we were all watching TV during the 70's on this website, does anyone remember the 'weebils wobble but they don't fall down' adverts?

I definitely was not watching TV in the 70's, but I checked it out on youtube. They surely don't make toys like that anymore.

As well as YouTube, there are also other websites, such as DailyMotion and TV-Ark, which are good for tracking down old commercials.
Soon there'll be TV-Ark Interactive so you can discuss old ads with others like you can on YouTube.
