Your Great Lost Tom Baker 4-Parter

Postby Graceful Leonard on May 3rd, 2012, 11:55 pm

As we know, some of the previous doctors had episodes wiped/destroyed.

Let's say you accidentally stumbled upon a previously unknown 'lost' Tom-era 4-parter. What would be your absolute ideal:

Which part of his era?

Which enemies?

Based on earth/with UNIT, or in space?

Which companions?

And the final question -- what on earth would you do? Would you go frantic posting about it on message boards, or keep it quiet?

GL,
I was just talking to someone about almost this very thing the other day. I'd very much like to find a copy of the Tom script of Dr. Who meets Scratchman. It's a movie, not a 4 parter but that's a minor issue. By what I've been able to find it's a very interesting story. Since it was written around the time of the Zygon episode that seems like a good time slot for it.
I certainly wouldn't keep it quite. The movie should be made!
BTW, if anyone out there has a copy of the script there are about a thousand people who want a copy!

Addition: I just found an interesting "List of unmade Doctor Who serials and films". I had no idea...
Doctor: "I'm Lord President, and I'm called sir."

Good question! Well, there is a "lost" Tom Baker story isn't there - Shada! Although it's a 6 parter and some of it exists, but if only it had been completed, if only.....
I think a perfect "lost story" for me would be a "Hinchcliffe era" one, as that era was easily the one that scored the most hits, I would have the Doctor withSarah and a guest appearance from the Brigadier who never really got a proper send off, this would have been his last regular appearance. I'd have had it set during World War 2, with the villains being the Nestenes/Autons and the plot involving something to do with Auton copies of Adolf Hitler. It would have been very gritty and scary and the Brigadier would have saved the day by destroying the Auton copy of Hitler (obviously he wouldn't have been able to kill the real one!). Maybe the story could have been called The Facsimilie Fuhrer, or something. And if I'd discovered it I woudl sell it to the highest bidder of course!

I think I'd want another Sarah/Harry story.
a historical featuring either the Meddling Monk or the Celestial Toymaker.

I'd also like to see another Tom/Adric story. Thought that was an interesting duo. Maybe something involving the Ice Warriors.

Toothy grin: you know you just suggested 'Let's kill Hitler!"
Were you, perhaps, hanging around with Stephen Moffat when you first started talking about this idea?

I've no idea what "Let's Kill Hitler" is, is it something from the new series? I've given up watching that, I just find it boring.

replace 'autons' with 'shapeshifting robot', and no Brig, and your idea is similar to the opening episode to the season 7 opener.
Too much River Song for my tastes, but the WW2 stuff was an entertaining romp.

I also would love to have seen the Scratchman movie. It would have been quite a feat to have a new Doctor Who feature film starring Tom Baker and whomever else was written inas the companion. :D

Something more comedic. Have it set in the late 70's, with Cheech and Chong
as Tom's companions. Tom would always be accosting them for getting too
high, when they should be helping him out to save the universe.

The Daleks would have been the best enemy in this story, I believe.
And to have a scene where Cheech and Chong tell Davros to " just
have some hooch with us, and relax man" would have been amusing.

And no way I would have kept it quiet! I would have told everyone! :D

Something where Tom's Doctor has a nightmare of how awful some of his future selves would be and he then takes steps to avoid it happening :D
