These questions are for Tom to answer, so please do not be tempted to post a reply to someone else’s question. If you want to make a comment, post it in the Fan Community → About Tom’s Newsletters and Answers to Questions subforum.
Please do your research before asking a question and try not to ask questions which Tom has answered before – either here or in interviews such as the Doctor Who Magazine articles available on this website in the Doctor Who section. If your question is factual, please try googling it first to see if you can find the answer.
Questions about whether Tom will appear at a convention or in a particular programme or film are wasted questions as he cannot talk about any offers in advance, and the moment agreement is reached, he announces the news on his website.
Tom will answer a MAXIMUM OF 15 QUESTIONS PER MONTH.
Hope today finds you in good spirits.
I recently came across a short video clip of when you visited a primary school in Belfast during your time in Doctor Who. You seemed to be loving the attention and the clip shows you running around the playground with the children following behind as if you were the pied piper! I know you visited lots of schools but as this one was in Belfast during a particularly troubled period I wondered if you had any memories of it?
All the best,

I do remember it but I did so many visits in those days.
Later, (1984?) I was in Educating Rita at Belfast Opera House and we sold out the entire week. And in the pub after the first night I accepted an offer to visit a children's home. Not a wise move. Someone instantly wanted to know what my politics were! We were in a pub and very happy because of our ecstatic reception and the guinness. I was not thinking clearly. It was a little diplomatic incident! Luckily someone from the Royal Shakespeare company swiftly arranged for me to also visit "the other community" and the tension evaporated. It was an amazing week and Kate Fitzgerald as Rita caused a sensation with her wonderful performance.
