She did a bit of sticking up for you in the 70’s when she objected to you being strangled underwater in ‘The Deadly Assassin’, thinking the scene to be too violent.
Pop music, profanity and pornography have been seen as unacceptable by the clean-up campaigner, and her anger was especially aroused in the early 80’s when Channel 4 showed ‘Scum’, the film version of a play banned by the BBC in the 70’s on life in borstal.
Did you ever think her views were right, or would you say she was just a chronic complainer?

I adored Mary Whitehouse. She was a great entertainer in her night. She would have been a sensation on STRICTLY. And lots of people agreed with her that TV was too violent. She and her opinions became a talking point. As to Deadly Assassin many people hoped I was being strangled and that I deserved to be strangled. I can understand that.
Most people are chronic complainers aren't they, Philip? It is the human condition. I have mentioned the Holy Bible (see a previous question) and marvellous fun that it is, I have to admit it is one long litany of complaining. Even God was at it, moan moan moan. He is still at it, I hear. Chekov wrote about people who never stopped complaining, Ricky Gervais never stops. Come to think of it all comedians moan all the time. As life is very short, about four thousand weeks, what else are people expected to do? Why, moan about it! Perhaps it is the universal pleasure. Who knows? I mean this early morning sunlight is a real drag if you happen to driving east. I mean someone should do something about it. Gloom gloom gloom.
