It never ceases to amaze me when I discover that an actor who performs in an English accent has in reality, an American one. I recently had the privilege of attending Cameron Mackintosh’s big production of Mary Poppins in Tampa.
I met some of the cast afterwards (I’m such a stage door Johnny) and Laird Mackintosh (Canadian) who played the part of George Banks, explained that a voice coach travels on tour with them and ’puts them right’ every so often.
Conversely the English cast who performed in Annie in London were coached in a very convincing New York accent .
Therefore my question Tom ,
‘Do you feel that there is any accent which you could not sustain throughout a performance on stage‘?.
