Who on Earth is Tom Baker?

Who on Earth is Tom Baker? is a nice book although I felt more have been covered about Tom's years on Dr Who.
I did learn more about his Monk days than I ever wanted to though! lol. My parents ordered me a copy of the book several years ago and it took me only two to three nights to finish it. I am sad that I no longer have it but I still remember it quite well.

Dear Prydonian -

Though it is now out of print, several places still offer it, from time to time. Resell book shops, ebay.com and amazon, com (on the web), are three places that I can think of, off the top of my head. And sometimes the copies are actually, how does pattie anne say it? -otto-graphed-! ;)

Best,

I recently got a paperback copy of the bio thanks to my saint-like mother who found it for me online. No autograph though, but still an enjoyable addition to my growing collection. :D

Dear Prydonian -

Great news. Still hoping that one day Tom will do a bio part two.

Hey thanks to all, I look forward to reading it. And yes, Tom should most definitely do a 'part two' on the bio. :D

Sooo what is everyone's favorite part of the book? ;)

I think my favorite part of Mr. Baker's autobiography was his relating his time as a brother and also towards the end of the book when he is mistaken for John Pertwee.

I would also like to see a part II as well. <hint>

hey donnarose,

I also enjoyed reading the section of the book detailing Tom's life as a monk in training. Hilarious and dare I say controversial things to be had there lol. His views on God is quite intriguing, and it sounds like a heck of a time, as I feel religion can be a burden to one if one lets it permeate every aspect of one's life. So glad he left when he did and found himself again as an actor. of course, being a Who fanatic, I am happy he did not stay in the priesthood, if for no other reason than that we would have been sorely deprived of his work as the Doctor.

thanks for sharing your thoughts,
Prydonian 8-)

Hey, Prydonian,

I think I enjoyed Mr. Baker's experiences because being Catholic myself and really finding it not to be a burden in the least, it brought some humor that perhaps Catholics can fully appreciate--his experiences as a monk, his late mother's devotion to the Saints, etc.

I suppose I have a different perspective and see it in a different light.

Those things made me smile. :)

Well, I would say that Tom went through a bad time in his Monk training days, just going on the book alone. I was once part of another major religion which was nearly as demanding in its own little way. Luckily, I got out while the getting was good. Not all religion is beneficial for people. True spirituality transcends man-made religious orders with their petty rules and regulations.
Just think, had Tom not been smart enough to get out when he did, we might have not had him as the definitive Dr Who! :o
