Dear Karen,
I would have liked to have a beer and skittles with Robert Louis Stevenson. His name jumps into my mind because I once played Long John Silver in Treasure Island. I murdered a few pirates and got away with it.
But Stevenson's genius was to be able to make these dreadful villains very entertaining and even, dare I say it, lovable. While the Squire and the Doctor and the rest are not so lovable. Alchemy! I'm talking fiction of course because in real life I would have run a mile from them all.
Poor Stevenson died young in the South Seas.
