Hello again, Tom - and my apologies for not getting a question in on time for July!
I seek your opinion, which I value greatly.
I have been invited to a friend's wedding in September - Church, meal and "do" afterwards. The problem I have is that, as I write this, I am unattached. Most of those other guests will be "coupled-up" and I fear that I won't enjoy the day, as I will be forced into a table as the "spare" (I've seen the seating plan) and - frankly - feel awkward.
Should I go? Seriously. The unfortunate thing is that both the Church and the reception venue are literally 5 mins walk from my flat, so I don't have any ready-made excuse like travel problems.
What would you do, sir?

If you really love your friend you must turn up and be ready to lay down your life for him. Which, from the way you describe it, means the most painful death of all: BOREDOM. On the other hand, at the table labelled "Extras" you might find a beautiful creature who is in the same state as yourself. Know what I mean, John? And if that happens then you might be in for a Saturday night to remember for the rest of your short life.
