Hello again, Tom.
With the Grand National just past, I was wondering "Would Tom ever have a flutter or two?".
I'm inspired to ask by a lovely picture of you with dear Nicholas Courtney, which I saw printed in either his autobiography or the Magazine tribute, of you and he in the '80s(?). In the pic you are standing togther on a street in Soho, and just behind is a sign for William Hill's bookmakers.
As a student I worked at weekends behind the counter in a Tote betting shop, and enjoyed bantering with the various 'characters' who liked a Saturday afternoon bet on the horses and greyhounds.
So, where/are you ever partial to a flutter, be it the Grand National for fun, or the Boat Race - where there's at least a 50-50 chance of picking the winner?!

No, I do not flutter on racing. But as a child in Liverpool I worked, (informally) for an illegal street bookie for 4 shillings a day. This was about 1944. We were hired to watch out for scuffers, (police) and they were easily spotted. But my father who did not believe in god certainly believed in backing horses and did so with fervour. I don't think he ever had a moments happiness, poor chap.
