"Doctor Who" has been a huge source of inspiration for sci-fi in general (surely someone must've noticed the police box in "Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure") but I've sometimes wondered what was the source of inspiration for the series initially. It may possibly have been the film adaptation of H.G. Wells' "The Time Machine" which was released in 1960, three years before the series began.
