"I woke up one day and I found myself famous."

Hello again, dear Tom,

Further to my previous question about autographs, I suppose there must have been a time when what had just been your 'signature' suddenly became your 'autograph', a collectable little Tom Baker memento that people you'd never met before would ask you for. When did this happen, when did you find yourself famous (or at least well-known) and autograph-worthy?

Many thanks!

Dear MR

After Nicholas and Alexandra and I was touring the United States: that was when I really got used to signing autographs. Later, when I was on a building site nobody ever asked me to sign anything. Then came Doctor Who and, as they say, the rest was hysteria. I once signed a man's wife. Where shall I sign I asked him? And he told me, and I signed her. Never again.

Best wishes,
