I was wondering if you had any director (stage, TV, the silver screen...) that you think he brought the best out of your performance. Someone who can truly made you give the best of your best in your acting.

Talking about directors in public is a very reckless thing for any actor to do. I think the best thing I ever did was Educating Rita by **** Russell. We ran for months on tour to packed houses. The Rita was played by the sublime Kate Fitzgerald and the teacher by Tom Baker. The director was Mike Ockrent, and Kate and I both agreed he was just marvellous. He died young. Quite a lot of directors have died not long after working with me: and thereby hangs a tale. Ssh!
