Dear Tom,

Great to meet you at Time Quest last year. I believe you were a friend of John Le Mesurier, and I've read in interviews that you're an admirer of his co-star in Dad's Army, Arthur Lowe. Do you have any memories you could share? Did the Dad's Army and Dr Who teams ever mingle at TV Centre?

Kieron, old boy,

I never met A Lowe although I was a big fan. I really think he was incomparable. And as a comic actor he had realised that the trick was to suggest that he had no sense of humour at all. John Le Mesurier was the sweetest chap who ever drew breath and he played a delicious melancholy jazz piano. He was the most popular actor and the most loved because he never interrupted anyone ever. Naturally, I adored him.
