After years of wooing from Big Finish, Tom finally agreed to reprise his role as the Fourth Doctor for them and Destination Nerva marked his Big Finish debut.
Released in January 2012 and written and directed by Nick Briggs, it featured Louise Jameson as Leela as it takes immediately after the season 14 closer The Talons of Weng-Chiang.
This story sees the Doctor and Leela visit space station Nerva. For the Doctor it is a return visit having been there before in the season 12 stories The Ark In Space & Revenge of the Cybermen. This time around it is in a different time period from the season 12 stories.
As The Ark In Space was at the near beginning of the Fourth Doctor era it seems somehow fitting that for Nerva to be the setting for his Big Finish debut.
Among the guest stars are Raquel Cassidy, who had appeared in the TV series in 2011 in The Rebel Flesh/The Almost People, and Tilly Gaunt, daughter of Revelation of the Daleks guest star William Gaunt.
The menace that is presented here is quite good in this very enjoyable Fourth Doctor Big Finish debut.
The highlight of the accompanying interviews was when Louise Jameson said about Tom telling her about deciding to do the Big Finishes in which she jokingly says that he shouldn’t do them as they are awful !
