Best Companion Performance

Have you got a favourite companion performance from Tom's era?

Perhaps it's from a lesser story, but just happens to be a good role?

Some of my favourites:

Sarah Jane - Hand of Fear (perhaps not the best story, but a great role for Lis)
Leela - Talons of Weng Chiang (can't say why, but this is my favourite of Louise's)
Sarah/Harry (Genesis of the Daleks)

I think Louise Jameson was the best actress of Tom's companions, and gave consistently excellent performances - her best being Horror of Fang Rock and The Sun Makers.
Lis Sladen was very good in The Brain of Morbius and in her leaving scene in The Hand of Fear.

(How about a worst companion performance? Matthew Waterhouse, please step forward....) ;)

Obviously, Liz's leaving scene is 'Hand of Fear' makes the list.

Louise in 'Talons on Weng Chiang'
I liked Mary Tamm in her first Key to Time story.

Ahhhhhhhhh - no question - dear Lis Sladen in any of her performances, although Mary Tamm was a worthy successor....
The Doctor: I tell you, Brigadier, there's nothing to worry about! The brontosarus is large and placid!
Harry Sullivan: (to the Brigadier) This the patient, sir?
The Doctor: (looking up at Harry) And stupid!

Agreed. Louise has also been excellent in the recent audios she's done with Tom especially in "The Wrath of the Iceni" which is my favorite of the first series.

Agreed! Lis Sladen was IMO, the best companion Tom ever had. No offense to her
successors, of course. They way she exuded emotion in her performances. She
was great!

The Hand of Fear, Brain of Morbius, Genesis of the Daleks, The Ark in Space were
just some of Lis's best stories.

I agree with you. I think she was a highly underrated actress, perhaps because she mostly kept out of the spotlight after Dr Who. She could do the screaming 'in peril' thing, the girl power thing, had a brilliant comic touch and could also be very subtle when given the chance. Very sad loss.

She could definitely do the "damsel in distress bit". You could could tell she
was an emotionally charged actress, who gave it all she got on screen. :)

It would have been nice if she had been given more movie roles. I know
she did some TV after Doctor Who. Then again, she did have kids, so
I'm sure she needed time to raise them.

God rest Lis's soul.
