After having initially shown interest in doing the Five Doctor's, what was it that ultimately led to your decision to back out of the project?

This is a frequently asked question. The five doctors came about not long after I had left the show. I was still feeling very proprietorial about the part and thought it too soon to come back for what I thought was a novelty act. Also, at that time John Nathan-Turner and I did not always agree about style and tone in telling the script. I felt I cwould not agree with JNT or the others; just imagine the clash of egos on the set!
Much later I became friendly with John and we had many good times together. I was very sad he and Garry Downie died so young and so close together.
There you are.
All good wishes from Tom
